OTTAWA — Canadians will soon be asked to take part in the 2026 census, with the national data collection set to begin May 4.
Statistics Canada says the census, conducted every five years, provides a detailed snapshot of the country’s population by gathering demographic, social and economic information from households across Canada.
Officials say the data is used to support decision-making at all levels of government, including planning, resource allocation and understanding community needs.
In early May, households will receive an invitation letter with instructions on how to complete the questionnaire, which can be filled out online.
Statistics Canada says the online process is secure and confidential, and encourages Canadians to participate to ensure accurate and comprehensive data.
