FORT McMURRAY — Fort McMurray Public School Division has appointed Wendy Solbak as its new mental health co-ordinator, effective August 2026.
The division says Solbak brings more than two decades of experience in education and counselling, along with a long-standing connection to the local school community.
Solbak began her career with the division in 1999 as a social studies teacher at Westwood Community High School. She later returned to the field after completing a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University in 2023, graduating with honours.
Over the past four years, she has worked as a school counsellor at Fort McMurray Islamic School and Greely Road School, supporting students, staff and families.
In a statement, Solbak said she is focused on helping individuals build capacity and resilience, noting her approach centres on empathy, connection and practical support for both children and adults.
School officials say her new role will expand mental health supports across the division, building on her experience working directly with students and families.
The division says Solbak’s appointment reflects a continued focus on wellness and mental health as key priorities within local schools.
