FORT McMURRAY — Spring weight restrictions on municipal gravel roads across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be lifted beginning June 6.
The municipality says load limits that reduced some roads to 75 per cent of gross vehicle weight during spring thaw conditions will no longer be in effect starting Saturday.
The restrictions were introduced to protect gravel roads while they thawed and dried following winter conditions.
Municipal officials say road users should continue to follow all posted signage and adjust their driving to current road conditions.
The municipality noted that weight restrictions help prevent damage to gravel road surfaces during periods when roads are particularly vulnerable to heavy loads.
Gross vehicle weight refers to the maximum licensed weight of a vehicle as listed on its registration and includes the weight of any trailers and cargo.
The municipality says motorists with questions can contact Pulse for more information.
