FORT McMURRAY — Names have been released and charges sworn in following a major drug investigation that led to the seizure of more than 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine in downtown Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say the investigation began in March and culminated May 22 with search warrants executed at homes on Fraser Avenue and Macdonald Drive, along with several related vehicles.
Two suspects were arrested without incident.
Police say officers seized approximately 1,542.5 grams of suspected cocaine, eight grams of suspected MDMA, 198 suspected Percocet tablets, one kilogram of buffing agent, drug paraphernalia and $12,035 in cash.
Divine Lopez, 29, of Fort McMurray, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Gabriel Lopez, 28, of Fort McMurray, has also been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Both were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 28.
The investigation was led by the Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section with assistance from the Crime Reduction Unit.
RCMP are encouraging anyone with information about suspected criminal activity to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
