FORT McMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is looking for residents to serve on two council-appointed committees focused on animal welfare and community investment.
Applications are open for the new Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and the Community Investment Program Approval Committee, with positions available to residents in both urban and rural communities.
The Animal Welfare Advisory Committee will provide expert advice to council on issues involving the health, safety and humane treatment of domestic and companion animals.
Two council members will serve alongside five community members, including one registered veterinarian and two representatives from registered animal rescue organizations.
Two public-at-large positions are also available for people with experience in animal welfare, public education or rural animal husbandry.
The Community Investment Program Approval Committee is responsible for approving and allocating grants to local non-profit organizations.
Two council members will serve alongside nine community representatives.
Those positions include representatives from the Indigenous community, oil sands industry, general business community and an external funding organization. The committee will also include two public-at-large members and three representatives from social profit organizations.
Travel assistance is available for committee members who need to travel to Fort McMurray from rural communities.
Applications for both committees close Aug. 23 and will be reviewed by council after the deadline.
