FORT McMURRAY — As families prepare for the start of another school year, United Way Wood Buffalo is encouraging residents to help local students by donating school supplies through its annual Tools for School program.
The program, delivered in partnership with Staples, has shifted from a community-wide school supply drive to a needs-based model designed to better match donations with what students require.
United Way now works directly with local school divisions to identify needed supplies, purchase them in bulk and coordinate delivery with the support of Staples and Kal Tire.
School divisions then distribute the supplies to students where they are needed most.
The organization says the approach helps maximize donations, reduces pressure on schools and ensures students receive the supplies they need before classes begin.
Residents can support the program by making a donation at the checkout at local Staples stores or by placing new school supplies in designated collection bins.
United Way says every donation remains in the Wood Buffalo region, helping remove barriers to learning and ensuring students begin the school year equipped for success.
