EDMONTON — Applications are now open for Alberta’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Scholarship, which provides financial support to students transitioning from government care into post-secondary education.
Children and Family Services Minister Searle Turton is encouraging eligible students to apply before the Aug. 31 deadline.
The scholarship, administered through Alberta’s Advancing Futures Program, will award 25 scholarships worth $2,000 each to students enrolled in eligible degree, diploma and certificate programs.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Scholarship recognizes the hard work, dedication and academic excellence of students transitioning out of government care as they pursue post-secondary education,” Turton said in a statement.
The province says the scholarship is intended to help young Albertans pursue their educational goals while supporting their transition into adulthood.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Scholarship was established following the royal couple’s visit to Alberta in 2011. Since then, 350 scholarships have been awarded.
The Advancing Futures Program receives $14.2 million in annual provincial funding to provide financial, social and emotional support to young adults leaving government care as they pursue post-secondary education.
