EDMONTON — Alberta is investing more than $38 million in grants aimed at helping non-profit organizations improve community facilities and deliver local programs and services.
Budget 2026 includes $25 million for the Community Facility Enhancement Program and $13.6 million for the Community Initiatives Program.
The province says the two programs typically support more than 700 projects each year, including initiatives involving arts, culture, heritage, recreation and community well-being.
“Community organizations turn ideas into action and help meet the needs of Albertans every day,” Arts, Culture and Status of Women Minister Tanya Fir said.
“By investing in facilities, projects and programs, our government is helping non-profits turn local priorities into lasting results that will benefit Albertans for decades to come.”
Funding can be used for community facilities and programs, including projects aimed at preventing gender-based violence, supporting women’s participation in the workforce and providing services for families.
The Community Facility Enhancement Program requires organizations to secure matching support for projects.
The province says each dollar provided through the program attracts an average of $3 from other funding sources.
Recent projects receiving provincial support include a $1-million grant provided in 2024-25 to the National accessArts Centre for construction of an accessible performing and community arts hub in Calgary.
The NE Centre of Community Society, Genesis Centre received $125,000 in 2025-26 to replace an aging gymnasium elevator at the YMCA Genesis Centre in Calgary.
The province says the replacement is intended to improve safety, reliability and accessibility at the facility.
Alberta says its community grant programs are designed to give local organizations flexibility to address priorities and provide services based on the needs of individual communities.
