The RMWB is acknowledging National Indigenous Languages Day by working with communities to advance reconciliation.
Over 60 multilingual Indigenous stop signs are being installed in Fort McKay, Anzac, Conklin, and Janvier.
This comes after stop signs with Indigenous language on them were installed in Fort Chipewyan.
The RMWB is also updating corporate email signatures with Indigenous languages and a land acknowledgment for Wood Buffalo.
“These are initial but important steps, and as we continue building relationships with communities and Indigenous partners, we believe they will lead to larger initiatives in the future,” said Dennis Fraser, Director, Indigenous and Rural Relations.
“We understand that recognizing, preserving, and strengthening traditional Indigenous languages is critical to Reconciliation.”
The RMWB also held a virtual celebration on Wednesday to recognize National Indigenous Languages Day.
