FORT McMURRAY — Alberta Health Services is warning people not to swim or wade at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park Beach after testing detected elevated bacteria levels in the water.
The advisory took effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
AHS says swallowing the water could cause gastrointestinal illness, while contact with the water could lead to skin, ear or eye infections.
Visitors and residents are also being reminded never to drink or cook with untreated water from Gregoire Lake or any other body of water.
AHS says water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
