FORT MCMURRAY — The group responsible for organizing the 2028 Alberta Summer Games in Wood Buffalo is now in place after regional council approved the Host Society’s board of directors.
The 12-member board will oversee the planning, coordination and delivery of the Games, bringing together local experience in areas including sport, tourism, culture, transportation, security and volunteer management.
Charity Wiley has been appointed chairperson of the 2028 Alberta Summer Games Host Society.
Coralie Roques will serve as director of Athletes Village and Food Services, while Rasha Hassan will oversee Culture, Ceremonies and Protocol. Lonnie Pilgrim has been appointed director of Facilities and Chantal Beaver will serve as Friends and the Games director.
Dawn Booth will oversee Media and Communications, Shannon Lloyd will serve as director of Tourism and Visitors Experience and Daniel Teasdale has been appointed director of Safety and Security.
Aum Upadhyay will serve as director of Information and Technology and Communications, Chelsi King will oversee Sport, Todd Hillier will serve as director of Transportation and Cartage and Katelyn Fujii has been appointed director of Volunteer Workforce.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says appointing the board marks a key step in preparations for the Games.
The Host Society will be responsible for organizing an event expected to bring thousands of young athletes, coaches and volunteers from across Alberta to the region.
The municipality says hosting the Games will also provide an opportunity to showcase Wood Buffalo, support local tourism and encourage participation in sport among young Albertans.
