FORT MCMURRAY — Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a reported arson in downtown Fort McMurray after police and forensic investigators were called to the area Sept. 19.
RCMP say officers and Forensic Identification Services responded to a neighbourhood downtown at about 10 a.m.
Police say the matter remains under investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
Residents have also come forward with accounts of property being targeted.
One person told Harvard Media News they were among those affected and said a swing in their backyard was set on fire. The resident provided video showing the aftermath.
A second resident, who lives on Alberta Drive, said someone tried to steal their Ryker the same night.
The resident said a police report was filed and investigators collected fingerprints and DNA samples.
RCMP have not confirmed whether the reported attempted theft is connected to the arson investigation.
Police say the arson investigation remains active.
