LONDON, U.K. — Alberta Energy and Minerals Minister Brian Jean, the MLA for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, is in London today for the 2026 Carbon Capture Global Summit, where he is scheduled to promote the province’s carbon capture sector and energy industry.
Jean is delivering remarks at the international forum, which is focused on accelerating carbon capture, utilization and storage through investment, policy and collaboration.
The summit brings together more than 800 decision-makers and more than 100 executive speakers from government, industry, finance and technology.
Organizers say the global CCUS industry is moving from individual projects toward larger, connected carbon-management systems.
The summit says global carbon capture capacity is expected to grow from about 64 million tonnes annually to more than 500 million tonnes by 2030, while arguing further expansion will be needed to meet international climate goals.
Jean says Alberta intends to use the gathering to showcase its carbon capture experience while promoting investment, market access, emissions reduction and technological development.
“Alberta is the global leader in CCUS,” Jean said in a statement ahead of the trip. “I’m proud to represent a province dedicated to responsible energy development.”
He said wider deployment of carbon capture will depend on governments, researchers and industry working together.
Jean is listed among the summit’s senior speakers alongside government and industry representatives from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
While in London, Jean is also scheduled to meet with European and industry stakeholders as Alberta looks to diversify energy markets and promote the province’s role in global energy security.
His itinerary includes bilateral meetings and stakeholder roundtables through Sept. 23 before returning to Alberta Sept. 24.
