Well, this is a little disappointing.
If you were hoping to see Gremlins 3 next year, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Warner Bros. has pushed the movie back another year, and it’s now scheduled to hit theatres in October 2028.
Yes. 2028.
The original Gremlins came out in 1984, and Gremlins 2 followed in 1990. So by the time this third movie arrives, it will have been almost 40 years since we last saw Gizmo and his little army of chaos.
Christopher Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins, is returning to direct, with Steven Spielberg back as an executive producer.
There still aren’t a ton of details about the story, which is probably for the best. We already know the rules. Don’t get them wet. Don’t feed them after midnight. And apparently, don’t expect the movie anytime soon.
I do love the fact that Gremlins is one of those movies that keeps finding new fans. People who watched it as kids are now introducing it to their own kids, which is probably how we end up with a whole new generation of people wanting a cute little Gizmo for Christmas.
And then remembering that Gizmo can apparently turn into a nightmare creature if you mess up his care instructions.
At this point, we have two years to get ready.
By 2028, I’m hoping the movie is worth the wait. Because if I have to wait that long for Gremlins 3, I want Gizmo, chaos, Christmas vibes and at least one scene that makes me question why anyone in this universe keeps getting these things wet.
