FORT MCMURRAY — Advance voting opens today, Oct. 13, for Alberta’s provincial referendum, giving voters five days to cast ballots before the Oct. 19 vote.
Elections Alberta says advance voting runs from Oct. 13 to 17.
Advance polling locations differ depending on whether voters live in the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo or Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche electoral division.
Voters are being encouraged to review the referendum questions before arriving, bring accepted identification and make sure they attend the correct voting location for their electoral division.
Those who are not already registered can register when they arrive to vote.
Several advance voting locations are scheduled to operate across the region during the five-day period.
Voters should check Elections Alberta’s Where to Vote tool before heading to an advance poll. The tool allows residents to look up whether they live in the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo or Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche riding and confirm which advance voting location, date and hours apply to them.
In Fort McMurray, advance voting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day from Oct. 13 to 17 at the Fort McMurray Islamic Centre, 109 Abraham Dr.; the Quality Hotel, Ballrooms A and B, at 424 Gregoire Dr.; and the Stonebridge Hotel, 9713 Hardin St.
Rural communities have more limited advance voting dates.
Father Begin Hall, 94405 Fort McKay Rd. in Fort McKay, is scheduled to offer advance voting Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The RMWB municipal office at 101 Loutit St. in Fort Chipewyan is also scheduled to be open Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Anzac Recreation Centre, 237 Stony Mountain Rd., is scheduled to offer advance voting Oct. 15 from noon to 8 p.m.
The Janvier Municipal Office, 110 Janvier Dr., is scheduled to be open Oct. 16 from noon to 8 p.m.
The Conklin Multiplex, 244 Northland Dr., is also listed by Elections Alberta as an advance voting location, although voting hours were not included in the information provided.
Election Day is Oct. 19.
