FORT MCMURRAY — Winter Maintenance Zone parking restrictions will be suspended across Fort McMurray from Nov. 2 to 6 following the conclusion of the RMWB’s Extreme Weather Response Plan.
The municipality says all winter maintenance subzones will be inactive during the week, meaning there will be no regular WMZ parking restrictions until further notice.
The Extreme Weather Response Plan concluded Saturday after crews plowed more than 400 streets during the week.
Snow clearing will continue on priority routes, in back alleys and on cul-de-sacs.
Crews will begin back-alley maintenance, with a focus on alleys used for garbage and recycling collection.
Residents are being asked to remove belongings from back alleys to avoid delays and prevent damage to personal items.
Temporary parking restrictions may still be introduced on priority routes.
The RMWB says residents should watch for temporary no-parking signs on streets where crews are preparing to remove snow.
Restrictions take effect 24 hours after the signs are posted and remain in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the signs are removed.
Vehicles left on affected priority routes can be ticketed and may be towed to the nearest available legal parking location.
The fine is $400, reduced to $240 if paid within seven days.
Snow removal on cul-de-sacs is expected to continue during the week, weather permitting.
Residents can follow winter road maintenance through the municipality’s Winter Maintenance Progress Map at rmwb.ca/wmz.
The map is updated twice daily from Monday to Friday and allows residents to search their street to check its maintenance status.
