COVID-19 is claiming the life of another individual in Fort McMurray.
The province announced on Monday seven additional deaths from the virus across Alberta – one of which lived in the community.
This is the eighth death related to COVID-19 in Fort McMurray and the RMWB.
Daily Update
The active total of COVID-19 cases is continuing to drop in Fort McMurray.
The province also announced on Monday 452 new cases over the past day.
There are currently 13,608 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 224,647 positive tests.
There are also 569 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 161 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 30 new cases and 97 recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 1,056.
The rural areas added two new cases and four recoveries, with the total of active cases now sitting at 43.
Fort McMurray remains the worst in the province when it comes to spread of the virus.
The community is averaging around 1,329 cases per 100,000 people, while the Municipal District Of Bighorn is seeing around 34 fewer cases per 100,000 individuals.
In total, 5,566 individuals across the RMWB – 5,318 in Fort McMurray and 248 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 208,856 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 92 per cent of reported cases.
Vaccination Update
Nearly 41 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and 29 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.

- 75+: 486 people (66 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,528 people (66 per cent)
- 40-59: 13,807 people (59 per cent)
- 20-39: 11,318 people (40 per cent)
- 12-19: 2,422 people (57 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 61 people (58 per cent)
- 60-74: 268 people (52 per cent)
- 40-59: 500 people (42 per cent)
- 20-39: 272 people (23 per cent)
- 12-19: 71 people (24 per cent)
