COVID-19 is claiming the lives of multiple individuals in Fort McMurray.
The province announced on Tuesday four additional deaths from the virus across Alberta – two of which lived in the community.
These are the fourteenth and fifteenth deaths related to COVID-19 in Fort McMurray and the RMWB.
One of the individuals was a man in his 50s who had an unknown amount of other comorbidities, while the other resident was a woman in her 50s who also had an unknown amount of other conditions.
In total, there have been 2,274 deaths across the province.
Daily Update
Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is seeing a sizable drop.
The province also announced on Tuesday 127 new cases over the past 24-hours.
There are currently 2,804 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 230,705 positive tests.
There are also 271 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 68 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added no new cases and 19 recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 100. One previously reported case has been removed from the map.
The rural areas saw one new case and one recovery, keeping the active total at 17.
In total, 6,841 individuals across the RMWB – 6,526 in Fort McMurray and 315 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 225,627 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 97 per cent of reported cases.
Vaccination Update
Sixty-two per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and over 42 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.
Those who got their first shot in April or earlier can also set a time to receive their second.

- 75+: 511 people (70 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,854 people (70 per cent)
- 40-59: 16,057 people (69 per cent)
- 20-39: 15,029 people (53 per cent)
- 12-19: 3,994 people (58 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 61 people (58 per cent)
- 60-74: 280 people (55 per cent)
- 40-59: 579 people (49 per cent)
- 20-39: 365 people (31 per cent)
- 12-19: 156 people (33 per cent)
