Keyano College is receiving expansion funding for their nursing programs.
The program expansion funding for Keyano College is going towards the Canadian Nursing Bridge Program along with the Practical Nurse Diploma, which are designed to help Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) meet the qualification and licensing requirements in Alberta.
The RN-focused Canadian Nursing Bridge Program will incorporate courses tailored to the needs of IENs, addressing any additional training necessary to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NLCEX). Keyano College intends to launch the initial course this autumn as a continuing education NCLEX preparation program.
This updated training program works with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Ministry of Health’s goal of reducing the financial obstacles international nurses face when bringing their qualifications to Canadian standards.
“I am pleased that we have received this substantial increase to our nursing programming,” says Arlene Starkes, Dean of the School of Health & Human Services at Keyano College.
“This new training will help address the shortage of healthcare professionals in our region and assist IENs in launching their careers in Canada.
Further courses are slated for the winter of 2024. The programing is provided through a collaborative partnership with Northwestern Polytechnic, Portage College, and Bow Valley College.
