After years of work, Composite High School’s modernization is finally complete.
The Fort McMurray Public School Division celebrated the opening of the newly updated school on Friday.
Composite is Wood Buffalo’s oldest high school and currently teaches 410 students in grades 7 to 12.
“While it’s true that a school is far more than a building, it is the kids, teachers, parents, culture, history and more, we now have a building that matches the passion and pride our staff and students have for the school,” said Dan Tulk, Composite’s Principal, in a release.
Construction started back in 2011 with the building services and utilities updated, while the rest of the work began in 2015.
The $39 million project included a new entrance, front offices, students cafeteria, gymnasium, flooring, and more.
“As a student who has experienced the construction first-hand for the last four years, I can say that it has been worthwhile,” added Hannah Duffy, Composite’s Student Council President.
