Fire Prevention Week 2025
Fire Prevention Week 2025
October 5 – 11, 2025
At 100.5 Cruz FM, safety in our community is always a priority — and Fire Prevention Week is the perfect time to turn up the volume on fire safety awareness! This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home!” and it’s one we can all plug into.
You’ve probably got lithium-ion batteries all over your house — in your phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, e-bikes, and even your kids' toys. These powerful little batteries pack a lot of energy into a small space. But if they’re overcharged, damaged, or not used correctly, they can become dangerous — even explosive.
Here’s what you need to know:
-
Only use manufacturer-approved chargers. Knock-off chargers might be cheaper, but they often don’t meet safety standards.
-
Don’t charge batteries on soft surfaces like couches or beds. They need airflow so they don’t overheat.
-
Stop using batteries that are damaged, bulging, or leaking. These are serious fire hazards.
-
Store batteries safely — away from anything flammable and out of reach of children and pets.
Fire Prevention Week is the perfect time to do a quick battery safety check around your home. Replace anything that looks worn out, and make sure your smoke alarms are working too!
Don't forget to talk to your kids about fire safety too!
