Canada Day will be looking a bit different this year in Fort McMurray.
Much of the celebrations have either been canceled, including the annual parade, or have moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, videos will begin to be shared on the RMWB’s Facebook page to celebrate.
A video called ‘Canada Day across the country’ will be shown on the RMWB’s Facebook page at 11 a.m. and will air at 1 p.m. on TV on CBC.
Another video, ‘Canada Day Together,’ will be also shared at 6 p.m. on the RMWB’s Facebook page and again on TV at 8 p.m.
Select residents will be able to enjoy a makeshift drive-in at MacDonald Island Park on June 30 and July 1. Each family was chosen through a lottery system to ensure there isn’t overcrowding.
The event will also include fireworks on both nights with those not in attendance still able to view them from different parts of the community.
Gates will open at 9:30 p.m. with the fireworks display getting underway at 11:59 p.m.
Also, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 will hold a small ceremony in front of the Cenotaph at 1 p.m. followed by a drive-by of First Responders.
