FORT McMURRAY — The Fort McMurray Public School Division has appointed a new director of teaching and learning.
Dr. Souhail Soujah, an educator with experience across several Canadian jurisdictions, will take on the role, bringing a background in classroom teaching and senior administration.
Soujah holds a bachelor of science from the University of Toronto, a bachelor of education from the University of Regina, a master of educational technology from the University of Southern Queensland and a doctorate in education from the University of Nebraska.
He began his career as an educational assistant before teaching biology in Golden, B.C., and later moved into leadership roles in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Manitoba and the Yukon.
School division officials say his experience working across multiple regions has given him insight into common challenges facing educators.
In a statement, Soujah said he is looking forward to joining the division and supporting students and families.
“I’m proud to be part of a progressive and forward-thinking organization that puts the needs of our students and families above all else,” he said.
Soujah added he sees the division as one focused on community needs and educational excellence.
