FORT McMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man is facing charges after RCMP investigated a break and enter at a local restaurant early Wednesday morning.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to an intrusion alarm at the Boston Pizza on Millennium Drive.
Police say the restaurant’s front door had been pried open and evidence of theft was discovered inside before the suspect fled the area.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified a suspect already known to police.
RCMP later attended a nearby residence connected to the suspect but say officers were refused entry.
Police then obtained a judicially authorized Feeney warrant, which allows officers to enter a residence to make an arrest.
With assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services, officers searched the home and arrested the suspect without incident.
Investigators also recovered items allegedly stolen from the restaurant.
RCMP say the accused had already been at large on an appearance notice connected to another break, enter and theft investigation involving the same Boston Pizza location on April 12.
Fifty-two-year-old Randy Bennett of Fort McMurray is charged with break and enter with intent and two counts of theft under $5,000.
He was remanded into custody following a judicial interim release hearing and is scheduled to appear in Fort McMurray court May 7.
Police are reminding residents to report suspicious activity as quickly as possible, saying timely reporting can assist investigations and help reduce property crime.
