FORT McMURRAY — Residents in Fort McMurray are being asked to provide feedback on winter road and snow clearing operations as the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo reviews its winter maintenance policies.
The municipality says public feedback gathered through surveys and community events will help guide potential updates to the Municipal Urban Snow and Ice Control Policy.
Council directed administration in February to review existing winter maintenance operations and bring forward options for possible improvements later this spring.
Municipal officials say the review will examine the Winter Maintenance Zone program along with broader snow and ice control operations throughout Fort McMurray.
An online survey opened May 11 and will remain available through May 24.
Residents can complete the survey online, by phone through Pulse, or by filling out printed copies available at the Jubilee Building downtown.
The municipality is also planning two in-person engagement events where residents can speak directly with Roads and Bylaw Services staff.
The first event is scheduled for May 15 at MacDonald Island Park, while a second public session will take place May 20 at the Jubilee Building.
The municipality says proposed policy changes and operational updates are expected to be presented to council at a public meeting later this spring.
Wood Buffalo officials say the engagement process is intended to identify areas where residents believe winter maintenance services could be improved.
