FORT McMURRAY — A community policing initiative used in communities across North America is coming to the Fort McMurray region next month as Wood Buffalo RCMP prepare to host a “Coffee with a Cop” event in Anzac.
RCMP say the event is designed to give residents an opportunity to meet local officers in an informal setting, ask questions, discuss concerns and build stronger relationships with police.
The gathering is scheduled for June 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo building on Opportunity Way in Anzac.
Police say the event is open to everyone in the community.
The “Coffee with a Cop” program has been adopted by policing agencies in numerous municipalities as a way to encourage casual conversations between officers and residents outside of emergency situations or enforcement interactions.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say local officers are looking forward to connecting directly with residents during the event.
