Fire Danger Forecast for May 29, 2026
FORT McMURRAY — Alberta Wildfire has issued a fire advisory for the Fort McMurray Forest Area as warm temperatures and increasingly dry vegetation continue raising wildfire concerns across northeastern Alberta.
Officials say there are currently no active wildfires burning within the forest area.
Since the start of the year, 17 wildfires have been recorded in the region.
Under the fire advisory, safe wood campfires remain permitted in campground fire rings, backyards and random camping areas. Charcoal briquettes, portable propane fire pits, gas barbecues and propane stoves are also still allowed.
However, all other burning activities are prohibited.
Existing fire permits have been suspended and no new permits will be issued while the advisory remains in place.
Wildfire officials say the fire hazard has increased because of warm weather conditions combined with a buildup of dry grass and vegetation capable of igniting easily.
Residents and campers are being urged to use caution with any open flames and ensure campfires are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended.
Alberta Wildfire recommends using designated fire pits or fire rings whenever possible and selecting sites clear of dry vegetation and low-hanging branches when camping outside developed recreation areas.
Officials also advise campers to keep water nearby and fully extinguish campfires by soaking ashes, stirring them thoroughly and soaking them again until cool to the touch.
The province says wildfire information, restrictions and advisories remain available through the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard and Alberta Fire Bans website.
