RMWB Wildfire Status Alert, Conklin, May 31, 2026
FORT McMURRAY — The evacuation alert for the hamlet of Conklin has been lifted after Alberta Wildfire reported a nearby wildfire is now being held and is not expected to grow beyond its current boundaries.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced Sunday the alert has ended for residents of the community, located about 160 kilometres southeast of Fort McMurray.
The alert was originally issued because of concerns wildfire LWF-059 could spread toward Conklin, prompting officials to advise residents to prepare for a possible evacuation on short notice.
At the time, residents were encouraged to assemble 72-hour emergency kits, review evacuation plans and take FireSmart measures around homes and properties, including moving combustible materials away from buildings.
No evacuation order was ultimately issued.
Municipal officials said Alberta Wildfire now considers the fire to be under control enough to prevent further growth beyond its established perimeter.
The improved outlook comes as significant rainfall is forecast for the region and firefighting resources remain actively engaged on the wildfire.
Alberta Wildfire said crews, heavy equipment, helicopters and air tankers continue working on suppression efforts.
The lifting of the alert means residents no longer need to remain on heightened evacuation readiness, although officials are continuing to encourage people across northeastern Alberta to stay informed throughout wildfire season.
The municipality said Alberta Wildfire remains the primary source for wildfire information and updates, while highway conditions and fire restrictions can be monitored through provincial information services.
Wildfire LWF-059 is one of several fires recorded this season in northeastern Alberta as crews continue responding to wildfire activity across the province.
