FORT McMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man is facing impaired driving and several other charges after allegedly crashing a vehicle into his own home and refusing to come outside when police arrived.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called to the area of 200 Lougheed Dr. at about 9 p.m. on June 15 following reports of a possible impaired driver.
Police allege the driver struck his own residence, causing damage to both the vehicle and the structure.
RCMP say the driver went inside the home before officers arrived and initially refused commands to come outside. The man later exited the residence and was arrested without incident.
Investigators identified the suspect as 35-year-old Shawn Cash of Fort McMurray.
Police say Cash was also subject to a Canada-wide driving prohibition at the time of the collision.
Cash has been charged with operation of a conveyance while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, operation while prohibited, driving while unauthorized, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence and driving an uninsured vehicle.
Cash was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remains in custody.
He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 8.
