FORT McKAY — Treaty Days are underway at Fort McKay First Nation, bringing together community members, neighbours and visitors from across the region for four days of cultural celebrations, entertainment and traditional activities.
The 2026 Treaty Days Experience runs from June 18 to 21 and features an expanded cultural village, traditional games, community competitions, live music and family activities.
Festivities began Thursday with the Fort McKay Group of Companies Annual Golf Tournament.
Friday’s schedule includes a community parade, grand entry and opening ceremonies featuring dancing, drumming and remarks from dignitaries. Organizers say the parade will showcase Fort McKay, neighbouring communities and regional partners.
Indigenous traditions will be highlighted throughout the weekend, including a round dance, traditional foods and a Déne Hand Games tournament.
Community members will also take the stage during Fort McKay Idol and compete in jigging, moose-calling and laughing contests.
The event includes a children’s discovery zone and a cultural village designed to showcase Indigenous traditions and teachings.
Saturday evening’s entertainment lineup features performances by A.B.O. and Who Made Who, an AC/DC tribute band, before Canadian country-rock group Blue Rodeo takes the main stage.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks and drone show.
The annual Lawrence “Bull” Powder Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament is also returning as part of the celebrations. The tournament honours the memory of the longtime community member.
Organizers say Treaty Days has a long history in Fort McKay and remains an important opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture, strengthen community connections and welcome visitors to the First Nation.
