FORT McMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will officially open the new Gregoire Skate Park on Tuesday with a community celebration recognizing the students, educators, municipal staff and contractors who helped bring the project to life.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on June 23 at the skate park, located at Greely Road Elementary School in Gregoire. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Mayor Sandy Bowman, Public Works Director Keith Smith and representatives from Greely Road Elementary School are expected to speak during the ceremony. School principals Dr. David Hurley and Chris Organ will deliver remarks on behalf of former teacher Hank Ueffing, who worked closely with students on the project.
The celebration will begin with a blessing from Elder Lorraine before the official ribbon cutting.
Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to take part in several family-friendly activities, including exhibits highlighting the development of the skate park, art activities and refreshments.
Municipal officials say the event is intended to celebrate the completion of the facility while recognizing the community members and organizations involved in its development.
