FORT McMURRAY — The Wood Buffalo Athletic Academy has appointed longtime local educator and coach Hannah Wilson-Forget as its director of academy operations and logistics ahead of the school’s inaugural year.
The academy announced the appointment this week as preparations continue for the launch of the multi-sport program at MacDonald Island Park for the 2026-27 school year.
Wilson-Forget most recently served as athletic director at Fort McMurray Composite High School, where she also taught physical education.
Wood Buffalo Athletic Academy executive director Sam Klassen said Wilson-Forget brings extensive experience in education, athletics and student development.
In her new role, Wilson-Forget will oversee academy operations and logistics, while helping develop and deliver the school’s multi-sport curriculum. She will also assist in establishing systems and programming intended to support the academy’s long-term growth.
Wilson-Forget said she is looking forward to helping students build confidence, develop connections and foster a lifelong appreciation for sport and physical activity.
Born and raised in Fort McMurray, Wilson-Forget earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta with a major in physical education. She began her teaching career in Hinton before returning to Fort McMurray in 2022.
In addition to her work in education, Wilson-Forget has coached volleyball at both the high school and club levels and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in athletic administration.
The Wood Buffalo Athletic Academy is scheduled to begin operations for the 2026-27 school year at MacDonald Island Park.
