Fort McMurray, Alta. — Residents can now follow local policing updates through a new social media channel after Wood Buffalo RCMP launched an official Facebook page aimed at improving communication with the public.
The detachment said the page will provide information on public safety issues, crime prevention, community events and policing activities across the region.
Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton said the platform is intended to help the RCMP connect with residents through modern communication channels.
“We recognize the importance of meeting people where they are and providing information through accessible, modern communication channels,” Clayton said in a statement.
She said the Facebook page is another step toward strengthening connections with residents, community partners and stakeholders throughout the region.
The RCMP said social media has become an important tool for sharing information, improving accessibility and supporting transparency. The page will also be used to highlight community partnerships and recognize contributions that help create safer communities.
Police said the Facebook page will be monitored regularly but is not intended for reporting crimes or emergencies and is not monitored around the clock.
Residents are reminded to call 911 to report emergencies or crimes in progress. Non-emergency incidents can be reported to Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040 or by calling 310-RCMP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers Alberta.
The RCMP said it plans to use the page to share important information, highlight local successes and continue building relationships with communities throughout the Wood Buffalo region.
