FORT McMURRAY — Pilots and aircraft from across Alberta are set to arrive in Fort McMurray next month for a free community event celebrating aviation.
The Fort McMurray Airport Authority and Alberta Air Tours will host the Community Aviation Event on Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the former YMM north terminal building on Snow Eagle Drive.
Pilots participating in Alberta Air Tours will fly into the community, giving residents an opportunity to view aircraft, meet pilots and learn about careers in Canada’s aviation industry.
“This event is all about bringing people together through a shared appreciation of aviation,” Fort McMurray Airport Authority president and CEO Denean Robinson said.
“Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, exploring a future career or simply looking for a fun family outing, we hope you’ll join us to experience the excitement of aviation and meet the people who help keep our communities connected.”
Elevate Aviation will operate an information booth for visitors interested in learning about careers in the industry.
The event will also include music, door prizes and a barbecue by donation in support of the 868 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.
Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism will provide a community welcome for visiting pilots.
“We’re excited to bring Alberta Air Tours to Fort McMurray and introduce our visiting pilots to everything this incredible region has to offer,” event organizer Dina Jammaz said.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for our pilots to connect with the community, share their passion for flying and welcome visitors of all ages to experience aviation up close.”
Admission and parking are free, and the event is open to the public.
The Fort McMurray Airport Authority says the event is being supported by Alberta Air Tours, Superior Propane, the 868 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism and Elevate Aviation.
