Fort McMurray Lotto Winner
FORT McMURRAY — A newcomer to Fort McMurray is $100,000 richer after winning a Scratch & Win prize on a ticket purchased from a local convenience store with a growing history of selling winning tickets.
Kenneth Lockyer won the prize on a $5 Ruby Mine 5X Scratch & Win ticket purchased at the Circle K at 100 Real Martin Drive.
It is the third winning lottery ticket sold by the store in just over a year.
Lockyer said he initially thought he had won $100 before taking a closer look at the ticket.
“I thought I had won $100,” Lockyer said. “But then I caught a glimpse of a few more zeroes and realized it was much more than that!”
Lockyer said his wife also needed a second look before believing the couple had won $100,000.
“Once I showed her the slip and she knew it was real, she was over the moon,” he said.
Lockyer said the timing of the win was particularly welcome because the couple recently moved to Fort McMurray.
“We just moved here a few months ago so this couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said.
Lockyer plans to put the money in the bank as a nest egg and use some of the winnings for things the couple needs.
