Broken urn with cremated ashes found in Thickwood
FORT McMURRAY — Wood Buffalo RCMP are renewing their appeal to the public in hopes of reuniting a set of cremated human remains with the family of a loved one nearly three months after the ashes were discovered.
Police say the ashes were found April 28 near the 100 block of Woodland Drive in Fort McMurray’s Thickwood neighbourhood.
Investigators also located pieces of what appeared to be a damaged urn nearby.
Despite months of investigation, RCMP say they have been unable to determine the origin of the ashes or identify the family they belong to.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about the remains or who believes a loved one’s ashes may be missing to contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP.
Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
