FORT McMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man is celebrating after winning $100,000 in a new prize category introduced for LOTTO MAX.
Wayne Gillam won one of the lottery’s new $100,000 prizes in the April 28 draw by matching the numbers 5, 15, 23, 34, 40, 42 and 50.
Gillam said he discovered the win while checking his ticket after filling up his wife’s vehicle at a gas station.
“I scanned the ticket and saw all the zeroes, and I was just really happy,” he said in a statement released by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.
Gillam said he went home in tears to share the news with his wife.
“I said, ‘You won’t believe what happened — we actually won!’ I’m just so grateful,” he said.
The family plans to use the money for renovations and upgrades to a family cabin, with a portion also going toward household bills.
Gillam purchased the winning ticket at the Mobil station on Powder Drive in Fort McMurray.
