RED DEER — A Penhold man has been charged with child sexual exploitation offences following an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Scott McNabb, 46, was arrested July 9 with assistance from the Innisfail RCMP. He is charged with possessing, accessing and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
According to ALERT, the investigation involved online offences and began in January after investigators identified someone allegedly distributing large volumes of child sexual exploitation material.
Staff Sgt. Gordon MacDonald of ALERT said the suspect was identified through a proactive investigation targeting offenders sharing child sexual exploitation material online.
Investigators say McNabb had previously been affiliated with the Penhold Minor Soccer Association as a coach and board member. He also appeared publicly as a children’s entertainer and mascot.
ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit continues to investigate as forensic technicians examine computers seized from McNabb’s home.
Mike Tucker, news director with ALERT, said investigators are concerned there could be victims in Alberta who have not yet come forward.
Anyone with information about the investigation, or who believes they may have had contact with McNabb in circumstances relevant to the investigation, is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
McNabb was released from custody under court-imposed conditions, including a prohibition on contact with anyone under the age of 16.
He is scheduled to appear in Red Deer court on July 30.
