FORT McMURRAY — A Fort McMurray youth is facing multiple charges after Wood Buffalo RCMP seized an electric dirt bike during the execution of a search warrant linked to an illegal off-highway vehicle investigation.
Municipal Traffic Services officers executed the warrant Saturday at a residence in the 600 block of Signal Road in Thickwood. Police said the investigation stems from incidents in June 2025.
An e-dirt bike was seized during the search.
The youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with three counts of flight from a peace officer and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Aug. 18.
“No thrill, social media post, or moment of excitement is worth risking your life or the lives of others,” Acting Operations Support Officer Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton said in a news release.
She said fleeing from police and dangerous driving can result in serious criminal charges, injuries or death, and encouraged young people to consider the consequences of their actions.
RCMP reminded residents off-highway vehicles are prohibited on Fort McMurray roads, except within the Abasand neighbourhood, as well as on sidewalks, parks, green spaces and urban trails.
Police said officers continue to conduct enforcement in partnership with Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo bylaw officers to address illegal off-highway vehicle use.
