RCMP to don new uniforms beginning August 15
EDMONTON — RCMP officers in Alberta will begin wearing new navy-blue uniform shirts starting Aug. 15 as part of a national uniform modernization effort.
The RCMP says the new shirts are being introduced province by province, with frontline officers at Alberta detachments beginning the transition this month.
The previous grey uniform shirts are not disappearing immediately. Police say officers may continue wearing either grey or navy-blue shirts for the foreseeable future.
RCMP says anyone concerned about whether someone is a legitimate police officer can ask the officer for identification.
People can also contact their local RCMP detachment through its non-emergency line to confirm whether an officer has been dispatched to their location.
