FORT McMURRAY — A 26-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing a break-and-enter charge after police followed a trail of blood and footprints from a downtown home early Thursday.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on Pond Crescent at about 1 a.m.
Police say a man was banging on the door and asking to be let inside. When the residents refused, he allegedly broke a glass pane and entered the home.
A verbal confrontation followed before the man fled on foot.
RCMP say officers found blood and footprints leading away from the residence and followed the trail into a nearby neighbourhood, where a suspect was arrested without incident.
Police say the man suffered a minor injury during the break-in, accounting for the blood found along the route. He did not require medical attention.
RCMP say the residents and the accused did not know each other.
Mitchell Cardinal-Boucher, 26, of Fort McMurray is charged with break and enter.
He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has since been released from custody.
Cardinal-Boucher is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Aug. 26.
