FORT McMURRAY — Two Fort McMurray high school graduates have been recognized for their community leadership with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Citizenship Award.
Fort McMurray Public School Division alumni Baber Akhtar and Nishka Rai received the awards during a July 17 ceremony hosted by Alberta Lt.-Gov. Salma Lakhani.
Akhtar is a graduate of Composite High School, while Rai graduated from Westwood Community High School.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Citizenship Award recognizes young Albertans for significant contributions to their communities through personal achievement and civic leadership.
The school division says both graduates have spent years contributing to the community through volunteering, local leadership roles and supporting fellow students.
FMPSD says their work has made an impact both at their former schools and in the broader Fort McMurray community.
The division congratulated Akhtar and Rai on receiving the provincial recognition.
