JANVIER, Alta. — Residents of Janvier will have an opportunity today to weigh in on winter road maintenance, bridge repairs and other municipal projects affecting the community.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is hosting a community engagement session, giving residents an opportunity to meet with municipal project teams, ask questions and provide feedback on several initiatives.
Among the topics is rural snow and ice removal, with the municipality seeking residents’ priorities for winter road maintenance.
Municipal staff will also provide information on upcoming rural bridge repairs.
The session will include representatives from the fire department as part of an effort to recruit paid on-call firefighters in Janvier. Residents interested in the positions will be able to speak directly with fire department representatives about becoming a firefighter.
Updates on other municipal projects and programs affecting the community will also be available.
A meal will be provided during the engagement session.
Janvier is a rural community of 229 people located about 120 kilometres south of Fort McMurray, according to the municipality’s 2025 census. The community is closely associated with the Chipewyan Prairie Dene First Nation and Chard Métis and has strong Dene and Cree roots.
