FORT McMURRAY — A 23-year-old Fort McMurray man has been charged with four counts of sexual interference following a report of a suspicious person near children at a skatepark in Parsons Creek.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers responded to a 911 call at about 6:23 p.m. on Aug. 24.
Adults at the scene reported a man had approached children who were playing in the area.
Police arrested the suspect without incident following an initial investigation.
His name is being withheld in anticipation of a publication ban.
The man was released from custody with conditions following a judicial interim release hearing. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Sept. 2.
The Wood Buffalo RCMP Specialized Investigations Unit continues to investigate with assistance from the Waypoints Youth and Child Advocacy Center.
RCMP say community awareness and timely reporting helped officers identify the suspect early in the investigation.
Residents are being reminded to report unusual or concerning activity but not to confront suspicious people or place themselves at risk.
Anyone who believes a situation presents an immediate threat to public safety should call 911.
