ANZAC — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is gauging community interest in a potential dirt bike track in Anzac.
The municipality says feedback from residents will help determine whether the proposed recreational facility is feasible.
Council directed administration to explore the project after approving a notice of motion from Coun. Vandecasteyen at its May 16 meeting.
The motion says a purpose-built facility could encourage responsible riding, reduce informal or unsafe activity and support community safety.
It also points to what it describes as strong interest in outdoor and motorized recreation within Anzac.
The feasibility work will consider possible locations, safety standards, community interest, facility operations, environmental impacts and potential costs.
Engagement findings and a preliminary feasibility assessment are expected to be presented to council this fall.
Administration has been directed to report back no later than the Oct. 13 council meeting, when councillors will determine the next steps.
