Remember MapQuest?
That website we used before Google Maps, Apple Maps and the soothing voice of a GPS telling you that you’ve “arrived at your destination”?
Well… MapQuest is back.
And somehow, it’s having a MASSIVE comeback.
The app recently shot to the top of Apple’s free app charts in both Canada and the U.S., even passing ChatGPT.
And the reason? MapQuest took a stand over the whole Lake Ontario vs. “Lake America” naming controversy and decided it was sticking with Lake Ontario.
Canadians apparently said, “You know what? We like these guys.”
Downloads exploded, and suddenly MapQuest went from forgotten 90s relic to the hottest app in town.
Which is hilarious because MapQuest wasn’t just an app back in the day.
It was a printer job.
You’d print out a stack of directions before leaving the house and pray you didn’t miss a turn.
Miss an exit? Too bad.
There was no recalculating. You just pulled into a gas station and asked a stranger for directions.
So welcome back, MapQuest.
At this rate, we’re only a few weeks away from Blockbuster making a comeback and everyone getting excited about renting a VHS.
The 90s are officially back baby!
