FORT MCMURRAY — The Fort McMurray Forest Area’s Junior Forest Ranger crew is being recognized after wrapping up a seven-week summer program that included hands-on experience in forestry and wildfire operations.
The Junior Forest Ranger program gives youth an opportunity to develop practical skills while learning about forestry, wildfire operations and teamwork.
The local crew also competed in the Bull of the Woods competition last month, earning the Safety Award for the season.
A senior member of the crew, Christina, was also selected as this year’s Junior Forest Ranger bursary recipient.
Alberta Wildfire praised the local crew for its hard work, dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the summer.
The Junior Forest Ranger program runs for seven weeks each summer.
Recruitment for the 2027 season is expected to begin early next year.
