EDMONTON — Alberta RCMP have unveiled a memorial plaque honouring employees who have died by suicide.
The plaque was unveiled Sept. 10, World Suicide Prevention Day, at Alberta RCMP headquarters in Edmonton.
Located outside the main entrance on 109 Street, the memorial is accessible to RCMP employees and members of the public.
It is one of 15 memorial plaques installed at RCMP divisions across Canada.
RCMP say the memorial provides a permanent place for reflection while recognizing the contributions of employees who died and the impact of their loss on colleagues, friends and loved ones.
Members of the public are also invited to visit the memorial and pay their respects.
“The unveiling of this memorial plaque is an opportunity to remember those we have lost and to reaffirm our commitment to one another,” said Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux, commanding officer of the Alberta RCMP.
“We must continue building an environment where employees feel safe seeking help, where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health, and where no one feels alone in their struggles.”
Alberta RCMP say they remain committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of employees and fostering a culture where people feel comfortable seeking help.
Anyone experiencing a mental health or suicide crisis can call or text 988 for support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
