FORT MCMURRAY — A Keyano College apprentice electrician is preparing to represent Canada on the world stage at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.
Keegan Sturge has earned a spot on Team Canada in Electrical Installations and is in the final stretch of training before leaving for China.
“With only two weeks left until competition day and just one week until I leave for Shanghai, training is getting pretty serious,” Sturge wrote on social media.
“The focus now is on maximizing every training session and making as much improvement as possible in this final week at home.”
Sturge has already travelled to Brazil and China for warm-up events as part of his preparation for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
Skills Canada says Sturge is training with mentor Dawn Ohama and WorldSkills Canada Expert Jason Taylor.
The organization has profiled Sturge as Alberta’s Team Canada competitor in Electrical Installations and says he will also be featured on its Team Canada podcast.
Fort McMurray-Cold Lake MP Laila Goodridge says the community has reason to be proud of what Sturge has accomplished.
Goodridge says Sturge is making Fort McMurray proud as he prepares to represent Canada internationally.
“It’s crazy to think how close WorldSkills is after all the work that’s gone into getting to this point,” Sturge wrote.
“I’m excited to get to Shanghai, compete, and see what comes next after this journey.”
