FORT MCMURRAY — Fort McKay First Nation has a new Student Success Coordinator.
Samantha Collins has joined the First Nation’s Education Department and will support Fort McKay youth in Grades 8 to 12 who attend school in Fort McMurray.
Her role will include one-on-one support, monitoring academic progress and attendance, and working with principals, teachers, counsellors and Indigenous liaison staff.
Collins will also help students navigate academic pathways while supporting their overall well-being.
She has lived in Fort McMurray for the past 17 years, graduated from Father Patrick Mercredi High School and recently completed a bachelor of social work through the University of Calgary.
Over the coming weeks, Collins will begin contacting families individually to introduce herself and learn more about how she can support students and their families.
Fort McKay First Nation says the position is focused on building relationships and helping students succeed both academically and personally.
